Bacardi NH7 Weekender: Swedish singer Jose Gonzalez to perform in Pune next month : Music, News
Anyone who’s ever heard Massive Attack’s iconic track, ‘Teardrop’, is sure to have stumbled upon Jose Gonzalez’s acoustic version some time or the other. He gives the already haunting song an even more heartbreaking quality; such is the power of his voice. Come December, his fans in India will be able to taste that power first-hand, thanks to Bacardi NH7 Weekender.
“It will be my first time (in India),” says the Argentinean-Swedish indie folk singer, “and I’m very excited. I know it’s a very short stay at each place, so I’m looking forward to coming back with more time to explore more.” The musician, who loves the music of flutist Hariprasad Chaurasia, will go on a solo tour after his India stopover. He adds, “I’m preparing solo shows and also a tour with a 25 piece orchestra. Next year I’m also setting up time to write.”
Gonzalez has several songs under his name, having also performed covers of a varied amount of songs. Some of those include ‘Heartbeats’ by The Knife, ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’ by Joy Division, ‘Born in the U.S.A.’ and ‘The Ghost of Tom Joad’ by Bruce Springsteen. His favourite, though, is ‘Hand on Your Heart’ by Kylie Minogue. “It’s one of my favourites, especially when I get to sing it with my band,” says Gonzalez. Interestingly, the singer/guitarist wasn’t always into softer tunes. The very first band he was a part of was called Back Against the Wall, a hardcore punk band based in Gothenburg. Later, he played bass guitar for hardcore band Renascence and guitar for the rock band Only if You Call Me Jonathan.
