By  |

The purpose of the FNR Awards would be to honor science communicators and excellent research workers together with their person associations.

The awards were presented by Marc Hansen, Secretary of State for Research and Higher Education; Véronique Hoffeld, Chairwoman of the Board of the FNR; and Marc Schiltz, Secretary General of the FNR. Véronique Hoffeld thanked them for their devoted attempts and congratulated the victor in her address.

Secretary of State Marc Hansen in his opening address emphasised how critical it’s to convey the findings of research in Luxembourg to the public in Luxembourg, and to a specialist audience and abroad.

Victor Exceptional Scientific Publications

The jury this year presented two awards in the category Excellent Scientific Publications.

Jérôme Paggetti and Etienne Moussay (Luxembourg Institute of Health) for the publication ‘Exosomes discharged by chronic lymphocytic leukemia cells cause the transition of stromal cells into cancer-related fibroblasts’, printed in the journal “Blood”

Jérôme Paggetti and Etienne Moussay, have revealed how cancer cells in chronic lymphatic leukaemia (CLL) alter their milieu to encourage their survival. Due to the steep impact possibility the findings have for the subject of intercellular communication generally, and especially CLL the jury selected their publication.

Victor Exceptional Scientific Publications

Matteo Polettini (University of Luxembourg) for the publication Efficiency Data at All Times: Carnot Limit at Finite Power, printed in the journal „Physical Review Letters“.

Matteo Polettini’s work focusses on investigating energy efficiency and thermodynamic procedures in nanosystems. The jury found the scientific quality of the publication to be excellent.

Victor Outstanding PhD Dissertation

Zhe Liu (University of Luxembourg – Faculty of Science, Technology and Communication) for his PhD thesis Lightweight Public-Key Cryptography for Wireless Sensor Nodes.

The FNR Awards jury commended the quality of Zhe Liu’s PhD dissertation emphasising how remarkable it’s that he has 140 citations and 22 publications to his name.

Victor Excellent Promotion of Science to the Public

Astrid Maischak („Déi kleng Fuerscher“), Gérard Wagener (Lycée de Garçons Esch), Maryse Lallemand (Ecole Fondamentale Dellhéicht) for the experiment theatre piece„Die Alchemisten von Dellhéicht“.

The jury for one commended the initial idea to join a scientific experiments show with a theatre performance. Also commended was the pedagogical rarity of the job: Secondary school pupils worked – mostly with primary school pupils within their spare time –.
